Hit and Run Charges

Hit & run is the crime of hitting or striking a pedestrian, bicyclist, motorist, or vehicle and then fleeing the scene of the accident. In the event of an accident, you have both a legal and ethical responsibility to stop and provide the other parties involved with your information. Whether you are involved in a minor fender bender or a head-on collision, you must stop and speak to the other people involved in the accident. If you hit or damage the property of another person who was not at the scene of the accident, you must leave that person a note with your contact information and file a report with the police. You also have a duty to provide aide to anyone who has been hurt or injured in the accident. If you fail to take these steps, you may face felony criminal charges that carry stiff penalties upon conviction.

If you are found guilty of hit & run, you may be subject to a number of penalties. For a first offense you may face fines, jail time, and the suspension of your driver’s license. If the accident resulted in the serious injury or death of another person, you could face vehicular homicide charges and much more serious penalties upon conviction. Your penalties will also significantly increase for a second, third, or fourth hit and run offense.

We understand that many circumstances may have contributed to a hit and run incident.
